Medicaid and CHIP Enrollment Trend Snapshot

CMS is releasing a new monthly Medicaid and CHIP Eligibility Operations and Enrollment Snapshot. The report provides current month and annual retrospective data on national and state-level Medicaid and Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP) eligibility and enrollment operations, as well as Marketplace and Basic Health Program enrollment. This new report streamlines the monthly Medicaid and CHIP eligibility and enrollment reports CMS released in the past.

The Enrollment Trends Snapshot will be phased out with the release of the new Medicaid and CHIP Eligibility Operations and Enrollment Snapshot. The historical reports on this page will remain available.

The Enrollment Trends Snapshot is produced by the Medicaid and CHIP Learning Collaborative (MACLC), using CMS Performance Indicator (PI) data.  CMS began releasing this data report in September 2020 to provide a retrospective view of the past 12 months of Medicaid and CHIP enrollment up to the most recent monthly enrollment report, and to compare enrollment to various factors. The complete dataset is available on Data.Medicaid.gov.  This report will help track trends in Medicaid and CHIP program enrollment and also look at potential drivers of increases in enrollment.
