Medicaid State Plan Amendments

A Medicaid and CHIP state plan is an agreement between a state and the Federal government describing how that state administers its Medicaid and CHIP programs. It gives an assurance that a state will abide by Federal rules and may claim Federal matching funds for its program activities. The state plan sets out groups of individuals to be covered, services to be provided, methodologies for providers to be reimbursed and the administrative activities that are underway in the state.

When a state is planning to make a change to its program policies or operational approach, states send state plan amendments (SPAs) to the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) for review and approval. States also submit SPAs to request permissible program changes, make corrections, or update their Medicaid or CHIP state plan with new information.

Illinois

This amendment provides licensed acupuncturist services for lower back pain and breech baby treatment.

Washington

This amendment adds Dental Health Aide Therapists per Court Order on January 12, 2023, and will align original SPA 17-0027 submitted on August 22, 2017, into the current Washington State Medicaid plan to cover and reimburse Dental Health Aide Therapists in accordance with state Senate Bill 5079 (codified into law at RCW 70.350.020).

This plan amendment will permit the District's Medicaid program to provide supplemental payments in Fiscal Year 2024 to Medicaid-enrolled physician groups, with at least five hundred (500) physicians and that contract with a public general hospital located in an economically under-served area of the District to deliver inpatient, emergency department, and intensive care physician services to Medicaid beneficiaries.
