Reducing Early Childhood Tooth Decay: Strategies for State Medicaid and CHIP Dental Program Managers

Presents some of the direct strategies that Medicaid and CHIP program managers can use to help meet clinical and program objectives. It also highlights states that are already taking action. These objectives include ensuring fluoride varnish is applied periodically to the baby teeth of children younger than 6; ensuring children younger than 6 are assessed periodically for ECC risk;  ensuring that a care plan is developed and implemented for high-risk children; and educating and engaging families in ECC prevention and management. 

Innovative State Practices for Improving the Provision of Medicaid Dental Services

Highlights some of the innovations and initiatives that eight states (Alabama, Arizona, Maryland, Nebraska, North Carolina, Rhode Island, Texas and Virginia) were involved in: partnerships and collaborations among state partners and stakeholders; collaboration with dental schools and loan repayment programs; increased reimbursement; simplifying administrative processes; grant funding; educating families; targeting young children; and dental home initiatives.

Quality of Care for Children and Adults in Medicaid and CHIP: Overview of Findings from the 2017 Child and Adult Core Sets

Summarizes state progress in reporting the Child and Adult Core Set measures for federal fiscal year (FFY) 2017, including an overview of performance for measures reported by at least 25 states and which met CMS standards for data quality.
